Shingled Harissa Potatoes

Serves 8

Okay, these are not a “typical” Thanksgiving potato contribution, but we need something on the menu that is filling but not filled with cream and cheese. If a potato dish can be called “light,” this is that. I’m aware that may not be for everyone. Something tells me someone will call dibs on the mashed potato contribution so you can have both covered.

I pulled this recipe from Bon Appetit last year and made a few tweaks. I am mixing the potatoes for both looks, and because I like the texture difference. I also used way less harissa paste because I want these to work for more people. I use the harissa paste from Trader Joes, which is near the shelf stable sauces, olives etc. It is quite spicy, hence why I suggested a range below. If you want them richer? I think a good sheep’s’ feta cheese on top with the nuts, would be different! In our experience, the Mina brand harissa paste (red) is more mild than TJ’s if your fam is spice adverse.

We used an oval casserole dish for serving, but it can also be done in a 10-12” cast iron or Dutch oven.
