The details matter here. You want to chop the apples and peppers small so they feel uniform with the slaw.

I know it’s annoying to remove the skins from the beans but it only takes a few more minutes! *Simply use a few fingers to sort of “pop” the bean out of that extra layer of skin that is around each canned bean. I only used 1 cup of beans from the can because I don’t like things overly bean-y, but if you hate leaving ⅓ of a can in the fridge for another use, just dump them all in.

I didn’t want to add another step as a ”must” below given all of the chopping so I've added it as optional, but if I were making this for company, I would make the crispy crumbs and sprinkle those on top for even more texture!
