This is the beverage of our family vacations or beach days in Laguna. They are slightly sweet and richer than my typical spritzer, but there is nothing like it on a hot, sunny day.
Yes, you do need both kinds of rum. It uses more fresh juice than a classic recipe, but they taste a little lighter that way. A dash of almond extract has been a quick sub when I don’t have Orgeat (an almond and orange-flower syrup).
As it goes with cocktails, - well, food in general - quality matters here. If you can scavenge some cold pressed pineapple juice, you’ll feel like you’re in Hawaii.
